Honesty

The Ethical Decision.

The children of an 85 year old woman with Alzheimers and her 90 year old husband with heart problems, were put into an assisted living center. The woman is in the late middle stages of Alzheimers, so she has no short term memory. Her husband has now passed away and her children do not know if they should tell her that he has passed. As of now they have just been lying to her saying that he is taking a "long nap" which satisfies her. Doctors say that it is okay to keep lying to her because since she does not have a short term memory that each time you tell her will be like saying it for the first time.
My question is this....could you lie to your mother or would you be honest?

I believe in honesty 99.9% of the time. With this case there is no doubt in my mind that I would continue to lie to the 90 year old woman. It would hurt me to see her devastated from the news each time someone would tell her. It is just better to have her live the rest of her life as happy and peaceful as possible.
